Omni Security Cargo Inspection systems are built on both x-ray technology and gamma-ray technology and fall under the broad category of Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) system. In this case the NII systems are designed to provide the user with radiographic images of the contents of seagoing or intermodal containers, thereby providing users/inspectors with the ability to potentially detect suspicious items and manifest anomalies including contraband, large weapons, and other prohibited items hidden within legitimate and manifested cargo. In addition, NII will provide the user with the capability to detect areas of high density (such as lead) that could conceivably be used as shielding for radioactive material such as used in the production of a WMD.

Some of the Omni family of products is based on gamma-ray technology incorporating a small nuclear isotope, typically Cobalt 60, which is commonly used for gamma sterilization of medical tools and devices as well field deployable tools for non-destructive testing and measurement; gamma systems are typically less expensive then other forms of technology used in NII systems. The limitations to the use of the isotope based systems are the size of the source and the achievable penetration in the target cargo. Because of these factors Omni Security has developed a parallel family of products that employ the same physical characteristics of those incorporating gamma technology and introduced conventional x-ray generators in place of the isotope ñ much higher energy and dose levels are achievable with a consequential increase in possible penetration levels.

In conjunction with stationary or portable radiation meters, NII systems are considered one of the first lines of defense in protecting the US Homeland against the threat of nuclear or radiation-based WMD. The US government has in place a strategy to prevent containers with radioactive material, ëDirty Bombsí or WMD from reaching US shores through programs that screen containers at their port of departure, rather than when they reach US shores.

Omni Security is one of few providers that can supply the lower cost gamma systems as well as x-ray NII systems. In addition, these advanced cargo inspection system utilize automated technologies for inspecting cargo, and can be readily integrated into a port or border crossing process workflow without disruption or impeding the flow of commerce. The shipping industry has also embraced advanced security programs as they also recognize that sophisticated automated security screening systems will not impede the flow of commerce if implemented properly.

Omni Security will provide assistance with site definition, traffic flow and system placement to achieve the most effective performance possible from a given piece of equipment.
