Overview
Built on a dual
view concept unlike the SCAN-II/1 the views are orthogonal. Used for
the rapid non-intrusive inspection of 10, 20, 40ft containers or
cargo trucks and reefers, it can also be used for tankers, small
trucks, minibuses and private cars; false walls, hidden compartments
and configuration changes will quickly be identified.

A. It is a gantry design configured in a fixed inspection tunnel
for minimum size and optimized radiation safety, 10m wide and 36m
long. All of the mechanical structure which forms the basis of the
gantry is mounted above ground; the ground level is free of rails
trenches and able ducts.
B. Overall the design is simple in
structure and configuration. It has a single radiation source
'viewed' by a detector array in the horizontal plane. It also has
another source and associated detector configured so that the cargo
is 'viewed' in the vertical plane; in this case the source runs on a
railed trolley mounted in a trench below grade, as shown. The
sources and respective detectors operate synchronously over the
length of the inspection tunnel.
As with the simpler
SCAN-II/1 two views of the cargo are available to the inspector, one
vertical and one horizontal.
Note: While Omni Security has
researched the application of electronic sources to the SCAN-II/2 it
was considered to be two costly and complex for the benefit to be
gained over the less complex gamma-based design, and therefore not
available as one of the Omni family of products at this time.
